Sumenep Prosecutor’s Office Raids Election Commission in 2024 Election Logistics Corruption Probe

SUMENEP, INDONESIA, MaduraExpose.com — The Sumenep District Prosecutor’s Office has launched a dramatic raid, signaling a new phase in its pursuit of alleged corruption related to the 2024 general election logistics in Sumenep Regency. This action is not a mere legal formality but a powerful statement that law enforcement will not tolerate crimes that threaten the foundations of democracy.

In late July 2025, a team of investigators from the Sumenep Prosecutor’s Office moved swiftly and discreetly. Their targets included not only the local General Elections Commission (KPU) office and warehouse but also the private residences of several KPU officials. This operation, authorized by a search warrant, confirms that investigators have secured sufficient preliminary evidence to advance the case to the investigative stage.

Election Logistics Scandal: The Focus of the Investigation

The case has captured significant public attention, including that of Zamrud Khan, Director of KONTRA’SM and Legal Deputy for GMPK (the Community Movement to Fight Corruption). According to Khan, the Sumenep Prosecutor’s Office is focused on probing alleged irregularities in the budget for the procurement and accountability of 2024 election logistics. Khan believes this courageous move by the office is a historic milestone.

“This is a historic moment for the prosecution institution, which has shown the courage to expose alleged corruption within an election organizing body in Sumenep Regency,” Khan stated.

He added that the process of procuring election logistics often presents a vulnerability for corruption. Without strict external oversight, this loophole becomes even wider. “This is where the opportunity for corruption becomes very loose,” he explained.

Marathon Hunt for Evidence and Witness Examinations

The Sumenep Prosecutor’s Office is now concentrating on gathering evidence. The Head of Intelligence for the office, Moch. Indra Subrata, confirmed that the raid was conducted to secure the corpus delicti—vital documents, especially those related to logistics accountability.

The investigation has entered a critical phase with the ongoing, marathon questioning of several witnesses. “We have summoned and questioned a number of people as witnesses,” Indra said, declining to reveal their identities. The testimony of each witness will serve as crucial legal evidence to clarify the case and validate the findings from the raids.

In accordance with Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, the prosecutor’s office will continue its analysis to determine whether there are elements of state losses or self-enrichment in the case. “The Prosecutor’s Office will make that determination once the case moves to the investigative phase,” Khan concluded.

This pursuit of corrupt officials demonstrates that there is no safe haven for those who commit white-collar crimes. The law will chase them to the end, to restore public trust and uphold justice.
