Pulau Akko Animated Film to Support Waste Reduction Campaign for Children

Maduraexpose.com Pulau Akko animated film series strive to raise awareness about cleanliness and waste management among children.

Waste Management Director General of Environment and Forestry Ministry Rosa Vivien Ratnawati explained that the film tells the story of animation characters that live a lifestyle that cares about the environment in each episode. Education on waste reduction for children is considered one of the campaigns with a long-term and good impact since children are the nation’s future.

“With easy to understand words, Pulau Akko film animation is expected to provide education to children, as well as to teach them about the harm of plastic waste and how to reduce it,” said Rosa Vivien Ratnawati in a press release, Saturday (5/11).

Waste issue has become everybody’s business and developed into a national and even world’s problem. It has reached an alarming level, and even in several regions, the issue has entered critical conditions since the capacity of final disposal sites can no longer support the increasing amount of waste. “For example, Indonesia generated 93 million of plastic straws waste which could not be decomposed in the nature. Let’s reduce the use of plastic straws,” she added.

As a campaign for children, this film is carried out seriously and utilized advancements in information technology that are familiar in children’s daily life. Pulau Akko features five characters that are based on unique animals in Indonesia. These characters promote Indonesia that is free from garbage. It uses a visual concept of paper folding or commonly called as Paper Toy, animated series, and comic series that will be broadcasted in online media starting June 2019.

In Indonesia, Waste Management consists of two main aspects, namely Waste Reduction and Waste Management. Waste reduction activities include reducing/preventing waste, reuse of items, and recycling waste. These activities are the basis of waste management and are continuously encouraged. Waste reduction activities are started and carried out from home by every individual.
